For a while now, we’ve been talking about Quibble Next. Our Discord members have heard the name thrown around and wondered what we've actually been working on. Today, we’re pulling back the curtain.
What is world-building?
If you write fantasy, sci-fi, romantasy, LitRPG, dark fantasy, speculative fiction - or pretty much any kind of fiction with a world worth getting lost in - you probably already know.
World-building is the process of creating everything that makes a fictional setting feel like an actual place.
Characters. Locations. Cultures. Histories. Systems. Rules. Relationships. Factions. Magic. Politics. Lore. All the little details that sit underneath a story and make its world tick.
World-building, but for readers too
Most world-building software is built around one basic idea: help the creator keep their fictional universe organised. But what if the world you build isn’t just something you want to keep for yourself?
That’s where things get interesting.
We’re building world-building directly into Quibble - the same place where your stories live and where your readers discover and read them. That means the world around your story can become part of the experience itself.
A location doesn’t have to be just a name in chapter 14. A character doesn’t have to exist only in the paragraphs where they appear. A historical event doesn’t have to disappear into your notes folder forever.
You can build out the world - and let your readers explore it while you're building it.
Endless ways to entertain your readers
This is the part we’re particularly excited about. World-building on Quibble won’t just be about helping you organise your notes. It’s about creating more things for readers to discover.
You might want to give readers a deeper look into a character’s past. Let them explore a location mentioned in your story. Drop a piece of lore that wasn’t important enough to make it into the main plot. Build out a faction, a culture, a timeline or an entire corner of your universe.
Or maybe you want to keep some things hidden. Some secrets might be there waiting for readers to unlock. The possibilities are pretty much endless.
And yes, world-building will be free
Here’s another important bit.
If you’re already using world-building tools, you probably know that some of them come with subscriptions, paid plans or limits on what you can build.
We’re taking a different approach. World-building on Quibble will be completely free for creators. Build as much as you want without having to pull out your credit card every time your fictional universe gets a little bigger.
So, when is it coming?
We can’t give you an exact date just yet, but also won’t launch everything at once. World-building tools will roll out in stages as we build and test them.
If you want early beta access, the best thing you can do is join our Discord. We share frequent updates there, including when new bits are ready to try!
