The new author monetization system is almost here. The idea is simple: give authors more control over how they monetize their stories, while giving readers a flexible way to keep reading.
How Does It Work?
Authors will be able to choose exactly where the paywall starts in their story.
Once a reader reaches a locked chapter, they can use QUIBs to unlock it and keep reading. And if they run out of QUIBs? They can either get more or wait 24, 48, or 72 hours for the next chapter to unlock for free.
How Do You Make Money Writing Web Novels?
There’s no single recipe for making money from a web novel. Authors commonly use subscriptions, tips, advertising, book sales, or paid chapters. Some keep the whole story free and monetize elsewhere; others put part of the story behind a paywall.
One thing is worth keeping in mind: readers generally need enough of the story to decide whether they want to pay for more.
Putting a paywall too early can make it harder for a new reader to discover what your story is about. There’s no magic number of free chapters, either. It depends on the genre, story length, posting frequency, and how the story unfolds.
Basically: give people a proper chance to discover your work, then let them decide how they want to continue.
Your Stories, Your Numbers
Authors will also get a dedicated dashboard showing things like unlocked chapters, monthly earnings, and plenty more where that came from.
Payouts will be processed and transferred monthly, so you’ll be able to see how your stories are performing and what they’re earning.
We Know You Have Questions
Probably a lot of them. So we’ll also be giving the website another makeover and creating a dedicated page that explains the monetization system properly.
Who Can Use It?
The system will be available to Quibble authors generally, provided our payment partner supports payouts in your country.
For everyone who’s been waiting for a way to actually earn from their stories on Quibble, this is the beginning. QUIBs have the first use case… and it’s not the last one.
More soon.
